The bachelors in the technical department were suddenly invigorated. Director Huang frowned slightly but said nothing.

Lin Hua rose and bent forward a little. “Thank you, everyone. I will do my best to manage the pharmaceutical factory and will not betray your trust.”

Most of those present deeply admired Lin Hua’s capability. Lin Xing, notoriously difficult to handle, was settled in two days by Lin Hua. They had to admit her skill.

The meeting adjourned. Everyone filed out of the conference room. Lin Hua waited until Yu Mo reached the door and extended her hand, wearing the smile of a victor. “Yu Mo, thank you for conceding.”

Yu Mo sneered inwardly and did not take the offered hand, turning to leave. Lin Hua let out a cold laugh behind her. Yu Mo was still putting on airs; she couldn’t win against Lin Hua in romance or at work. What face could such a defeated rival have to attend Lin Hua’s celebration banquet? Still, if Yu Mo insisted on coming, Lin Hua wouldn’t mind stepping on her a few more times.

Yu Mo headed to where the pretty boy was. As soon as Mu Shaozhou saw her, he went to greet her, wrapping her in his arms and refusing to let go, sensing her foul mood. His thick brows creased. “What’s wrong? Who made you angry, Yu Mo?”

Yu Mo lightly pounded his back, muttering, “A white lotus stole my man and my job.”

Mu Shaozhou cupped her face, gently kissed the corner of her lips. “If I’m your man, no one can take me away. Tell me about the work, I’ll help you find a way.”

Yu Mo took it as mere comfort and turned her face aside. “Shh, if Lin Hua finds out about you, she’ll definitely come to try and steal you. I finally found someone I like, I have to hide you well.”

Lin Hua paid well—what if he ran away? Mu Shaozhou tightened his embrace, slightly excited. “You like me, so…”

Before he could finish, Yu Mo’s phone rang with a distinctive tone, different from usual. Mu Shaozhou glanced over—it was Fu Yanting. She still hadn’t forgotten him?

The joy that had just bloomed in his heart faded, replaced by a surge of jealousy.

Yu Mo didn’t avoid him, answering the call in his arms. “Yu Mo, I’m at Blue Pavilion Club. Come over.”

“I’m not coming, I’m busy.” Yu Mo hung up at once.

The phone rang again. “Yu Mo, I’ll give you twenty minutes. If you don’t arrive in time—”

Yu Mo hung up before he finished, then blocked and deleted the number.

Mu Shaozhou scooped her up and gently placed her on the bed. Yu Mo immediately protested, “Let me rest a bit, eat something first…”

Mu Shaozhou looked aggrieved, his handsome face pitiful and innocent. “Is that all I am to you? Just a stud? Is there nothing else?”

“What else did you think I wanted you for, moon gazing?”

Mu Shaozhou: “…”

Yu Mo saw the dark circles under his eyes and took out a bag of herbal medicine, stuffing it into the hyaluronic duck. “If you can’t sleep well at night, hug this. It’s filled with calming herbs.”

“I won’t. I want to sleep holding you.”

“Will you even sleep, then?”

“When I’m tired enough, I’ll fall asleep.”

Yu Mo rubbed her forehead. “Then go for a run.”

“Ding-dong.” The phone chimed.

She looked at it, then jumped off the bed hurriedly, slipping on shoes as she spoke, “Baby, I might not come back tonight. Go to bed early.”

She didn’t finish her words before—“Bang!”—the door slammed shut.

Blue Pavilion.

Yu Mo pushed open a private room door. Seeing who was inside, she rushed forward and hugged her. “Xi Rui, why didn’t you tell me you were back? I could’ve picked you up at the airport.”

Chu Xi Rui released Yu Mo and grabbed her hand. Her delicate face was framed by two big, round eyes, long lashes fluttering like feathered fans.

“Yu Mo, I came back for something important.” She leaned in and whispered, “Su Beican’s dating someone. I have to check her out.”

Yu Mo was stunned. “When did this happen?”

She and Chu Xi Rui were university classmates and close friends. Su Beican and Chu Xi Rui grew up together; Xi Rui, a year older, always played the big sister and cared deeply for him.

“I just returned today and got the news that he’s celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday here at this club.” Chu Xi Rui frowned. “But I don’t know which room. We'll wait outside and keep watch.”

“Alright.”

They split up at the staircase, each taking a side. After a few minutes, Yu Mo yawned. Not a soul had come out of any of the dozen private rooms. How long would this take?

She decided to go on the offensive, checking rooms one by one, claiming she’d entered by mistake.

She pushed open several doors but still didn’t find Su Beican.

When she opened another room, Fu Yanting’s face appeared.

Yu Mo said nothing, immediately closing the door, cursing her bad luck inwardly.

“Yu Mo, you should have told me you were coming. I’d have picked you up,” called Fu Yanting’s good friend, Shen Zining, blocking her from shutting the door.

“Fu, look who’s here!” His voice was loud. At his words, everyone in the room turned to Yu Mo.

Fu Yanting’s smiling face froze instantly at the sight of her. “Yu Mo, didn’t you say you wouldn’t come?”

Yu Mo ignored the disdainful and mocking looks from those seated. “I’m not here for you.”

“Hahahaha!” The men and women in the room burst into laughter.

Everyone knew Yu Mo was Fu Yanting’s sycophant; nobody believed her words.

Someone blurted out what everyone else was thinking.

Shen Zining nudged a few men, pulling up his payment code on his phone. “Pay up, I told you Yu Mo would show up. Even if the engagement is broken, one call from Fu and she’d come running.”

The others begrudgingly scanned the code, then gave Yu Mo a contemptuous look, muttering under their breath.

“Damn, never seen such a shameless sycophant.”

The group broke into another round of raucous laughter.
