Chapter Sixty-Two: This Is a Divine Being (Thanks to Cloud on a Journey for the reward)
“Chongchong, what’s happening? Why do I feel a warm current flowing inside me?” Fang Yuan was utterly astonished. Before, no matter what changes occurred in his body, he would never feel anything at all. He had only ever discovered his bodily transformations through experience, yet this time, he genuinely sensed a current of warmth moving through him. When the current dissipated, Fang Yuan felt a significant surge of strength in his palms.
Just then, a man lunged toward him. Fang Yuan tried a gentle wave of his hand.
Huh? What was going on?
With only the slightest exertion, Fang Yuan sent the burly man—who had thrown himself at Fang Yuan—flying into the enormous pool. He had only intended to test the changes in his body, not expecting such a light sweep to send the other man tumbling into the water.
It was well known that great white sharks were intensely curious, and they loved interacting with people. Unfortunately, their means of interaction were nothing a human could withstand. The great white shark’s form of “conversation” was bloody and brutal, involving those razor-sharp teeth tearing into human flesh.
No matter how robust the person, none could endure such an encounter.
Seeing the great white shark swimming eagerly toward the man who had just fallen in, Fang Yuan’s heart filled with dread. Without waiting for Chongchong to explain, he pushed off with his legs and leapt into the pool.
The burly man, who had appeared so fierce on land, was now like a drenched chicken in the water, his previous bravado gone. When he saw the shark approaching, his face turned a ghastly shade of green.
“Aah, no, please, Young Master, save me!” the man cried out desperately, yet Xiaobao showed no sign of being moved.
The great white shark opened its cavernous jaws, ready to bite down, and the burly man was so terrified he forgot even to struggle. Confronted by this lord of the seas, he was paralyzed with fear.
At that critical moment, a figure flashed before the man’s eyes, placing himself directly in harm’s way. For a brief instant, the man felt as if he had encountered a living Bodhisattva, willing to sacrifice himself to feed the great white shark in his stead.
If he could, the burly man would have kowtowed three times in gratitude to this living Bodhisattva. Because he hadn't seen clearly who the figure was, he assumed it was one of his teammates. But when he saw this “Bodhisattva” use his bare hands to pry open the shark’s gaping jaws in two directions, he finally saw that this “Bodhisattva” was none other than Fang Yuan—the very man who had tossed him into the pool just moments ago. His face was now a mix of gratitude and fury.
The bite force of a great white shark was tremendous. For Fang Yuan to use both hands to pry open the shark’s mouth—one could only imagine how terrifying his strength had become. That earlier strike had merely been a test.
Now Fang Yuan was unleashing the full extent of his newfound power—enough to contend with a great white shark, something no ordinary human could achieve.
Xiaobao, who had been watching the spectacle unfold, was equally stunned by Fang Yuan’s display.
He muttered under his breath, “This is impossible, this isn’t scientific, this absolutely can’t be real.”
From a scientific standpoint, the scene Xiaobao witnessed could only be explained by special effects in a movie. Yet none of this was cinematic trickery, nor was it a hallucination—it was all real.
Watching this unfold, Xiaobao grew increasingly curious about what would happen next. On one hand, he hoped his great white shark would defeat Fang Yuan; on the other, he was eager to see Fang Yuan prevail over the shark.
As Fang Yuan and the great white shark wrestled with neither side yielding, Xiaobao’s thoughts drifted. In this seaside city, there was an old legend. It was called a legend because nobody ever believed it to be true. Because no one believed, it had become the favorite topic of idle conversation.
It was because of this legend that, upon seeing Fang Yuan’s incredible abilities, Xiaobao so desperately wanted to see him win.
The great white shark was already a ferocious marine predator. To ensure it remained fierce, Xiaobao never let it eat its fill during feeding times. The shark, long since starving, was now determined to devour the prey before it. Curiosity was the last thing on its mind.
“Master, it seems that little fellow wanted you to change clothes just to lure you into the water with the great white shark, so he could sit back and watch the spectacle,” Chongchong analyzed. Chongchong had noticed that the gaudy clothes contained rows of precisely arranged metal hidden within.
Now, seeing that little man observing them with keen interest, Chongchong realized he had planned to throw Fang Yuan into the water and watch as the shark toyed with him.
Thinking of this, Chongchong was filled with hostility toward the little man. If it weren’t for Fang Yuan’s earlier admonition, Chongchong would have thrown him into the water as well—to let him make friends with the great white shark and play for a while.
Once in the pool, Fang Yuan quickly caught on to the situation. The burly man was still in the water, hesitating and unsure whether to help as he watched Fang Yuan locked in a struggle with the shark.
“Hey, come here and lend a hand! Don’t forget, I just saved your life!” Fang Yuan shouted.
Seeing the man still unwilling to help, Fang Yuan spoke in a commanding tone.
At Fang Yuan’s words, the man seemed to snap out of his daze. He looked at the shark, then at Fang Yuan, but still didn’t know where to begin.
For some reason, the great white shark was being firmly restrained by Fang Yuan, able only to thrash its tail back and forth. Its massive caudal fin slapped the water, sending splashes across everyone’s faces.
This was seawater. To keep it fresh, Xiaobao had someone bring in new seawater every day. The salty water splashed onto their faces and trickled into their mouths, briny and sharp.
Tasting the seawater, Xiaobao’s wandering thoughts finally returned to the present.
He gave a command to the people behind him, who climbed up the steps and pulled the burly man out of the pool. As he was leaving, the man turned back and said, “Brother, sorry about this. That great white shark won’t really hurt you.”
He spoke with his back to Xiaobao, who did not hear what he said to Fang Yuan.
The man’s terror earlier had been entirely genuine; the great white shark’s appearance was simply too frightening. Even knowing that Xiaobao had raised it as a pet since it was small, faced with such a situation, he couldn’t help but feel overwhelming fear.
