Chapter 110: At a Time Like This... You're Actually Daydreaming?
Headquarters of the Irene Group, 4th floor, inside the G. Point.
As Hu Jiayao smashed open the floorboards and Gu Jinxing pushed open the secret door, a piercing alarm immediately blared from the wall behind them.
Startled, Hu Jiayao, who was crouching nearby clearing the tiles, dropped the ceramic shards in his hand and raised his hands defensively. “I didn’t touch anything! It wasn’t me who triggered it!”
Gu Jinxing shook his head helplessly. “This secret door must have its own alarm system. Once it’s opened, it’s guaranteed to go off.”
“What do we do then?” Hu Jiayao looked nervously toward the exit.
Gu Jinxing wasn’t sure if there was a way to disable the alarm. Even if there was, it would probably require the original key’s owner—the president or her close confidants—to intervene personally. After all, they had sneaked in without permission; the alarm was designed specifically to guard against intruders like them, so disabling it themselves was out of the question.
Glancing up at the warning sign on the wall, Gu Jinxing said in a low voice, “Security will arrive in five minutes. We have five minutes to quickly find the crucial item the chairman mentioned, then get out.”
No time to waste. As soon as Gu Jinxing finished speaking, the two of them slipped through the secret door one after the other.
Sliding down like a chute, they passed through a narrow corridor and tumbled into an even darker room.
The room was large, with a ceiling about five meters high, shaped like an enormous egg.
Standing inside this “egg,” they saw row upon row of shelves arranged densely, leaving only narrow aisles between them, resembling the underground stacks of a library.
But instead of books or newspapers, the shelves were neatly lined with black square metal boxes.
“What… are all these?” Hu Jiayao asked.
Gu Jinxing didn’t recognize them either. He had a vague suspicion, but thought now was not the time to discuss it. “No time. Let’s find that document first!”
When the chairman handed him the key, he also briefed him on the storylines of several key characters.
So Gu Jinxing knew that the main quest’s critical item they needed was a top-secret S-class document.
Such a file was likely locked away in a safe or hidden compartment.
Hu Jiayao frowned as he looked at the endless, crammed shelves. “There are so many shelves. Even if you’re level 4 with maximum agility, it’s impossible to search all of them in just a few minutes.”
Gu Jinxing stepped between two shelves, his palm scanning along the edges of the black metal boxes like a mine detector.
“Turn on the player scanning system. Set sensitivity and detection range to maximum. When you get a signal, narrow the search. We should find it quickly.”
Hu Jiayao obediently activated the scanning system in his mind but gave up halfway through scanning just one shelf.
His primary stats were strength and armor, with agility less than a tenth of Gu Jinxing’s. Half a minute had passed, and he had only scanned half a shelf. His efficiency was too low.
Besides, he wasn’t suited for such meticulous searching tasks.
“I’m just wasting time here,” Hu Jiayao said, heading back toward the corridor they had entered through. “I’ll return to G. Point and keep watch for you. When they arrive, I can buy you a few more minutes.”
Gu Jinxing didn’t object and continued searching without pause.
Hu Jiayao reached the entrance and was about to slip back into the corridor when he noticed a light in a corner nearby.
There stood a small square table with a matching folding chair, illuminated by a desk lamp.
It appeared to be a workstation for the room’s administrator.
Approaching, Hu Jiayao saw a stack of documents, a notebook, two pens, and a water cup on the table.
Just like the items on the desks outside in the offices, the tabletop, chair back, lampshade, and even the cup bore the company’s logo.
The two pens rested on the documents, each tethered by a coiled string, like those at bank counters to prevent theft.
Hu Jiayao removed the pens and picked up the documents beneath, noticing the word [classified] repeatedly stamped on them.
…What did that mean?
Having only had a sports teacher in elementary school, Hu Jiayao couldn’t understand and tried to consult the system. Upon bringing up the interface, a prominent notification popped up:
“Yo: Congratulations, player! You have found the main quest’s second key item—the root cause of the illness.”
Could this be the classified document the chairman and Gu Jinxing spoke of, the secret file the key characters were searching for?
Such an important item—just casually left on the administrator’s desk?
Really playing right under the light and missing it!
Just as he was pondering this, the floor beneath them began to tremble violently, shaking the nearby furniture and shelves with clattering sounds.
…An earthquake?!
Hu Jiayao instinctively looked around, quickly realizing this wasn’t an earthquake but a rhythmic contraction, like a spasm in some part of a body.
“What’s going on?” Hu Jiayao asked in confusion, turning to see Gu Jinxing rushing over.
Without hesitation, Hu Jiayao handed the documents to Gu Jinxing. “Is this it?”
Gu Jinxing took the file and glanced over it. “Looks like it.”
He quickly stowed it away. “No time. Five minutes have passed. Let’s get out of here.”
Hu Jiayao nodded and leapt back into the corridor they’d come through.
Gu Jinxing glanced once more at the small table beside him and grabbed the notebook before catching up.
But Hu Jiayao suddenly released his grip and dropped back down to the floor near the corridor entrance.
Gu Jinxing’s heart sank. Sure enough, he soon saw numerous fully armed security NPCs descending one after another at the corridor’s mouth, like frogspawn.
It was too late…
…
…
In the underground parking garage, in the back seat.
Wen Nan had used a pair of white-fur-lined handcuffs to restrain Yang Jingyuan’s hands behind her back. After she had shot him a reproachful glance earlier, he simply blindfolded her with a white lace ribbon and continued his movements.
This time he took from his reserve gear a maid outfit similar to Rem’s style and dressed Yang Jingyuan in it.
Though not as tall as Guan Ailin, Yang Jingyuan’s figure was still quite good, curvy and well-shaped, and the dress fit perfectly.
Yet Wen Nan felt it clashed somewhat with her distinctly East Asian features.
Pinching the white lace edging on her leg, he couldn’t help but think that it would have been better if she wore only lace…
Indeed, this style of clothing suited someone like Yu Shujun better—blonde with blue eyes—to truly bring out the charm.
His mind wandered uncontrollably, conjuring images of Yu Shujun lying beneath him…
Wen Nan suddenly shivered and straightened up.
He nearly faltered, dropping everything halfway.
What the hell…
Why did that face pop into his head at a moment like this?
How was this any different from suddenly thinking of your ex during an intimate moment with your partner?!
Sensing his distraction, Yang Jingyuan snapped angrily, “At a time like this… you’re daydreaming?”
Wen Nan hurriedly shook his head, trying to dispel those inappropriate thoughts.
But his mood was broken, and he couldn’t summon the same focus as before.
Only then did he notice the flood of 99+ messages popping up in the guild chat.
He quickly opened the chat group through the system, where messages poured in relentlessly.
[Nine: How’s it going?]
[FireFireFire: Boss! You finally showed up! Those two still haven’t appeared. Feels hopeless!]
[Jinxing: We’ve withdrawn from G. Point.]
[FireFireFire: Damn! You actually made it out alive?!]
[Yao: Chairman, we have good news and bad news here. Which do you want to hear first?]
