Words of Gratitude from the Three Rivers

Power and Tang Dynasty Pike 511 words 2026-04-11 13:30:24

Now that I've reached Sanjiang, I finally remembered to write a few words of reflection.

After leaving Qidian for two years, everything feels unfamiliar and strange. Looking back, I suddenly have the sense of having weathered many storms; so many words come to mind, yet I find myself at a loss for what to say.

It’s a feeling of helplessness. For reasons everyone knows, the officialdom genre I once excelled at has become a relic of the past. The historical tales I used to write—reincarnation, time travel—have grown increasingly formulaic. After discussing with my editor, I’ve finally decided to return to the Tang dynasty once more, to fulfill a grand and splendid Tang dream. In an era where the Chinese Dream and all sorts of dreams are in vogue, writing a Tang dream seems perfectly in step with the times.

I have spent several months preparing, and I believe I have built a rather vast main storyline, with many fascinating side stories intricately woven in. I hope to connect these stories through the protagonist’s struggles and growth.

In every age, striving upward is worthy of song. Whether you are a figure of prominence or an ordinary soul, whether you bask in glory or live in obscurity, compared to this world—compared to the vastness of the stars above—we are all but insignificant.

Thus, this book will focus on the journey of a young man unwilling to be ordinary, one who harbors ambition and lofty dreams. He does not seek to change the course of history itself, but rather his own destiny. He is not a usurper or an anomaly in history; he is simply striving to create a history that belongs to him.
