Standing atop the last armored vehicle in the convoy, Qi Chen bent his knees slightly and leaned forward to maintain his balance.

Before him, dozens of pairs of blood-red eyes sent a chill down his spine. His exceptional vision allowed him to see through the fog and discern the owners of those red eyes—dozens of wolf-like mist beasts.

But these mist beasts were far bulkier and more muscular than the wolves he had seen in zoos in his past life.

Their long gray fur had become matted and clumped from neglect, streaked with dried dark red stains.

The mist beasts charged relentlessly behind the convoy, breathing heavily through mouths lined with sharp teeth. Upon spotting Qi Chen, their jaws dripped thick, viscous saliva.

A long howl pierced the air as the pack suddenly quickened their pace, closing in on the convoy.

“Face! What’s happening behind us?”

“About twenty mist beasts are following us!” Qi Chen’s heart pounded fiercely. Facing mist beasts was an entirely different experience than facing human foes; adrenaline surged through him, making his blood race faster.

“Can we take care of them?”

“No problem!”

Before he finished speaking, one mist beast let out a feral roar and leaped toward Qi Chen, who stood atop the vehicle. Its glowing red eyes burned with the ferocious desire to tear into living flesh.

“Roar!”

But a louder, fiercer roar shattered the tension as a massive gray-white figure appeared in front of Qi Chen, invisible to the naked eye at first glance. Its right fist slammed down like a heavy cannonshot onto the attacking mist beast.

A piercing whimper echoed as the beast crashed to the ground. Immediately, several others stopped pursuing the convoy and turned on their injured comrade, biting savagely.

A sharper, more distinct howl rang out. Mist beasts clutching pieces of their fallen companion’s flesh reluctantly ceased their attack and regrouped.

There was a leader among the beasts.

Inside the armored vehicle, tense special ops agents poked their gun barrels out the windows but dared not open fire without orders. As a mist beast prepared to pounce, it suddenly collapsed from an unseen blow.

“Give me a magazine!” Qi Chen’s voice rang out at the window.

Though puzzled, the well-trained agents quickly handed him a magazine from a tactical vest.

“Phew!”

Having secured what he needed, a smile flickered across Qi Chen’s face.

The mist beasts were too many. If they managed to encircle and attack all at once, even Bawang wouldn’t be able to handle them. They had to thin their numbers before the full assault.

That was why Qi Chen asked for another magazine.

Click, click, click!

He carefully removed bullets one by one and handed them to Bawang, who flicked off a bright orange bullet like a pebble and hurled it at a mist beast.

With a sharp whistle, a bloom of blood erupted from the beast’s head; its body went limp without a sound.

Repeating this tactic, Bawang threw every bullet Qi Chen had given him.

But the wary mist beasts kept running and dodging. After emptying a whole magazine, about ten beasts still relentlessly pursued them.

Research from the institute showed that mist beasts had a vague, inaccurate perception of supernatural forces but could not see such entities.

Yet, despite their blindness to the supernatural, these bloodthirsty beasts were indifferent to their fallen comrades. The scent of spilled blood only fueled their ferocity.

“Howl!”

A prolonged howl shattered the dense fog as the mist beasts, after running tirelessly, finally formed a rough encirclement and charged at the vehicle beneath Qi Chen.

Instead of using their sharp fangs, the brutal beasts rammed their massive bodies like battering rams against the armored car.

Boom! Boom!

Flesh and steel collided violently. The driver gripped the steering wheel tightly to steady the vehicle, but the relentless impacts made his hands tremble.

On the roof, Qi Chen was now lying flat to keep his balance amidst the violent shaking.

All of this was because they didn’t want to open fire and cause a bigger commotion.

Lying prone, Qi Chen’s sight was severely obstructed, and he couldn’t let Bawang continue attacking. The constant jolts shook him so hard he felt like his bones might shatter. The beasts’ low growls echoed relentlessly in his ears.

Suddenly, a shadow appeared overhead. Qi Chen quickly turned his head to look up.

One mist beast had leapt onto the roof with astonishing agility, its blood-red eyes fixed fiercely on Qi Chen.

“Roar!”

Bawang appeared instantly. Within its attack range, it was an unbeatable war god!

With a powerful hand, Bawang grasped the mist beast’s neck mid-leap, squeezing with such force the beast’s eyes seemed about to pop out. It whimpered pitifully, then was flung aside like trash, rolling wildly before falling silent.

“Not done yet?” A warm voice came through the earpiece, urging him on. “If you can’t handle it, just tell the special ops to open fire! I refuse to believe we just got unlucky and attracted trouble like this!”

“I can handle it!” Qi Chen’s heart stirred with determination. Using Bawang’s power inevitably affected him, but fighting alongside Bawang like this minimized the impact.

Reaching down toward the window with one hand, he pounded the roof with the other and shouted:

“Give me more magazines!”

The special ops agents inside, watching the unfolding chaos, were astonished at Qi Chen’s skill. One of them quickly handed over a magazine. He had already taken down nearly half the mist beasts without even drawing a pistol!

“Commander Face! Here!”

The agent who had given the earlier magazine was visibly excited. Hearing Qi Chen’s new request, he hastily removed two more magazines from his tactical vest and shoved them into Qi Chen’s hands.

That was a close call.

Qi Chen exhaled sharply, tossing the two magazines to Bawang, who immediately extracted all the bullets.

This time, instead of lobbing them one by one, Bawang grabbed bullets in both hands and hurled them fiercely forward.

Dozens of bullets shot out, empowered by Class A strength, piercing through the mist beasts with overwhelming force.

Suddenly, several mist beast carcasses littered the road.

Inside the vehicle, the special ops agents heard Qi Chen’s voice again:

“Give me another clip!”
